Independance Square - Kuala Lumpur Tours

The Independance Square or Dataran Merdeka (Merdeka Square) it was originally the cricket green of the Selangor Club. Formerly known as the Selangor Club Padang or simply the "Padang", later was renamed to Dataran Merdeka in 1 January 1990.

Padang Merdeka is a good starting point to explore KL. Here the national flag flies atop 100m flagpole, the tallest in the world. Within the square is a field fronting the Royal Selangor Club where Malaysians converge every year to celebrate independance. Formerly known as the Padang Kelab Selangor (Selangor Club Field), it was extensively used for cricket, hockey, tennis and rugby mathes.

Located in the center of Kuala Lumpur City. It is situated in front of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building. It was here the Union Flag was lowered and the Malayan flag hoisted for the first time at midnight on August 31, 1957. Since then, Dataran Merdeka has been the usual venue for the annual Hari Merdeka Parade (National Day Parade).

The building built at 1897 with Moorish features, clock tower and copper domes. Beautifully illuminate at night, this well-known landmark for the British administration. It is now the venue of the Supreme and High Courts.
